Corby Rock Sheep Cobs - Sheep Production Systems
Corby Rock sheep cobs are a concentrate feed fortified with minerals and vitamins which are presented as a large 16mm feed pellet. The cobs are designed for ewes pre and post lambing. The Cobs are suitable to be fed directly on grass or straw without the need for troughs.
Labour Saving
The magor labour input into lowland sheep production occurs over the lambing period. This involves a conventional feeding system which is feeding out forage either in bale or clamp form, bedding, machinery requirement and supplemental feeding in troughs. The ewe cobs leave a less labour intensive feeding system. This is to provide less work and at the same time save money for the farmer.
Systems in Conjunction with Sheep Cobs
Upland Sheep Production
- To supplement deficits in feed availability
- Prevent twin lamb disease.
- Ensure healthy viable lambs, which are quick to nurse.
- Provide sufficient colostrum production.
- Less labour, no troughs to be moved (no poaching).
Lowland Sheep Production
- Used outdoors in conjunction with extended graing systems.
- Ensures healthy viable lambs and sufficient colostrum.
- Less labour, no troughs.
- Requires very little usuage of farm buildings, especially if expanding the flock.
- Less conserved forage required.
- Lower disease challenge with indoor lambing.
- Sheep cobs can be used indoors on straw where trough space may not be sufficient.
